Why checking your blood pressure matters

Many people with high blood pressure feel completely fine, which is why a quick check can be so important. If it is left untreated, high blood pressure can increase the risk of serious health problems, including strokes and heart attacks. The only way to know for sure is to check.

However, once you know, if your reading is higher than expected, you can then get support to bring it under control and reduce your risk of health problems by speaking to your GP for advice. You never need to share your reading with library staff.

Libraries are already places where people go for information, support and connection. By making blood pressure monitors available in every Oxfordshire library, residents can take a simple health check in a familiar local setting, without needing an appointment.

But remember, while library staff can show you where the monitor is, they cannot help you understand your reading or provide medical advice.

It only takes a few minutes - ask at reception to find out more.
