There’s more to Oxfordshire libraries than you think

There’s more to Oxfordshire libraries than you think

When you think of a library, you probably picture shelves of books and a quiet place to read. And yes, our libraries do have plenty of brilliant books.

But they also offer a lot more: friendly activities, practical support, and welcoming spaces to connect with others.

What’s on: Activities for all ages

From sing-along Rhymetime sessions and craft activities to Storytime, Lego sessions and seasonal events, there’s often something happening to brighten up your week - especially for families with little ones.

Looking for something more relaxed? Drop in for a natter at a knitting group, enjoy a chat over a cuppa, or join in with Scrabble or chess, and friendly book clubs.

This is just a taste of what’s on offer - have a browse of our events to see what’s coming up at our larger libraries, or pop into your local library and ask what’s on.

More than books: Practical help and support

Need to get online? Library members can use our computers for free for up to two hours each day.

If technology feels a bit daunting, you’re not on your own. Our volunteer Digital Helpers can support you with the basics - like getting online, setting up email, and finding your way around common websites and services.

Many libraries can also help with everyday admin tasks - such as applying for a bus pass or getting a blue badge application verified. If you’re unsure what your local library offers, just ask at the desk.

Language cafés: practise, chat, connect

Govoriš angleško? Ви розмовляєте англійською? Sprechen Sie Englisch? Our language cafés are a relaxed way to meet people and build confidence in conversational English (and other languages) through friendly, informal practice.

There’s plenty more your local library can do - take a look at what’s available near you, or pop in for a chat with the team.

And Yes—You can still borrow a book (or two)

Choose from print books, e-books and e-audio, and plenty in between - whether you’re after a quick read, something for the children, or your next great listen.
